New volunteers are always welcome. You will find some examples of things you could do below, but other roles may be available.
If you’re interested in joining us, please contact us and either leave us an answerphone message, using the number provided, or complete and submit the form. In either case, please give us your name and phone number and times when you would be available for a call back to discuss volunteering opportunities. Please indicate if any of the specific roles listed below interest you.
Editor
You will select news stories from a variety of local online publications for the local miscellany recording, in line with our publication guidelines, and prepare them for readers. Basic office computing skills are essential, but training will be given.
Reader
The Editor will email you articles for you to record, at home, on your smartphone. Quality, clarity and accuracy of reading is of high importance. Different voices and accents make articles interesting for the listeners – you will enjoy bringing the article to life. Full instructions will be given on the recording process.
Support Technician/Engineer
This role is responsible for the quality of the audio recording, using digital editing packages to edit out mistakes, ensuring no background noise, getting the sound levels correct. Each edition is recorded onto a master copy for duplication for the listeners. If you are not a sound or audio engineer, full training will be given. However, our technical team work virtually, from home, so a good level of computing skills and IT access will be necessary.
Copier
After the master recording has been completed, using state of the art digital copying equipment you’ll copy recordings onto memory sticks and check the process has been completed so that sticks are ready for posting.
Administrator
You would meet fortnightly at the Sunnyhill Community Centre with a small team to open returned wallets, keep records of listeners and return and place recorded USB sticks into wallets for processing.
